You don’t live in Singapore and not eat chilli crab and here, at its flagship outlet in East Coast Park, you’ll find Jumbo Seafood sourcing some of the best examples. Besides their excellent chilli crab, try them with black pepper, salted egg yolk or steamed with Chinese wine. There’s also a host of other seafood dishes to stuff your face silly with – think salted-egg prawns, crispy fried baby squid or any number of special seasonal dishes.
Add in an alfresco table and a sniff of the sea, and voila! What’s not to like? Mop up your sauce with a plate of deep-fried mantou (Chinese steamed buns) and wash it all down with a glass of fizz or sake. Alternatively, for those with classic tastes, you’d do well to beat the pairing of a glass of fresh but fruit-forward Petaluma chardonnay from Adelaide Hills or the vibrant stone fruit of a glass of Devil’s Lair chardonnay from Margaret River.
