SquareMeal Review of Cloud Street

Cloud Street takes culinary decadence to a new level with its brilliantly inventive, palate-challenging cuisine and service that is doting but never suffocating.

The story goes that Cloud Sreet is the result of a chance meeting between chef Rishi Naleendra and Gareth Burnett, the restaurant’s GM. Fans applaud the complete package that delivers comfort, warmth and understated buzz alongside exceptional and inventive food alongside 'stunning' wines – both big names and small – artfully matched by a crack sommelier.

Scallops, kohlrabi and seaweed or wild venison, fermented plums and zucchini are typical of the imaginative and expressive dishes, rubbing shoulders with chicken liver with cranberry and maple, razor clams with cultured cream, fresh herbs and a slightly nutty, smoky celtuce or Sri Lankan curry of Hokkaido King Crab with an aromatic coconut broth. Barbecued turbot with spiced raisins and coconut miso pushes further boundaries, while the ironic vegemite on toast is not all that meets the eye.

Plentiful wines by the glass make pairing easy, be it a white Burgundy, Yarra Valley Pinot or an Orange wine. There are plenty of grower Champagnes and sake too, and the whole list is creatively and thoughtfully put together.

What started as a chance encounter between Chef Rishi and Gareth Burnett, Cloudstreet’s General Manager, resulted in the genesis of a concept that reflects the duo’s shared desire to create a dining room that exists on the philosophy of true hospitality.

Joined by Sommelier Vinodhan Veloo, whose expertise has led him to devise the wine programs at acclaimed venues, they have forged the perfect team to see this vision to fruition.

Cloudstreet is our newest venture and sister restaurant of CHEEK BISTRO. Helmed by Chef Rishi Naleendra and Gareth Burnett, Cloudstreet is an amalgamation of thoughtful, expressive food, artisanal, progressive wines and warm, immaculate service.

We built the restaurant from scratch to inspire luxury and comfort the moment you arrive and hope that stepping into our restaurant is akin to stepping into your best friend’s home. At the heart of Cloudstreet is a chef’s counter designed specifically to encourage intimate interactions between you and us. Our food menu is ever-changing depending on seasonality of ingredients and showcases our take on contemporary dining. Look for our wine menu that features over 350 labels that pay homage to some greats as well as the small, independent winemakers from around the world.

Just as clouds spark imagination, we are excited to present you an experience that reflects the innovation of our kitchen alongside unprecedented hospitality.
