SquareMeal Review of Manhattan

The clue is in the name at this world class that marries Manhatten swank with hotel grandeur while tracing the history of American drinks from the Hudson’s first settlers, which set in motion an age of new money, new technology and a global nmarketplace that sparked a Golden Age of cocktails. Think cocktails like Coal (Dry Curacao and Bowmore 12yo) and Iron Horse (with Monkey 47 Sloe Gin). Then came the 20s and 30s when the modern metropolis takes shape and prohibition gives root to the jazz music of Harlem in a maelstrom of elegance, excess and vice. Fast forward to the 60s and 70s when a colourful, bold, naughty age of hedonism lays anchor and Mad Men rule the roost. Try the Cuban Old Fashioned with Havana Club 7yo, Cola-mint syrup and cherry tobacco bitters. Alternatively stick to the classics or a glass of fizz and soak it all up with American staples like fried chicken waffles, burgers and steak.
