This paragon of modern British restaurateurship by celebrated British chef and restaurateur, Marco Pierre White, flies the flag for colonial Singaporean living and is a home from home for people nostalgic for classical food and drink in a poshed-up pub setting. What’s not to like about British classics like Beef Wellington, shepherd’s pie or chicken Kiev or Italian favourites like linguine, lasagne or tagliolini ai frutti di mare? A short list of starters touts beef carpaccio and prawn cocktail as the cornerstones while, for pud, there’s baked apple crumble, chocolate mousse or tiramisu. Prices are far from cheap, but quality is assured particularly for the popular Sunday lunch roast or a stonking fish and chips that will have people weeping into their licked-clean plates. Clubby fixtures and fittings and a mish-mash of idiosyncratic 20c cartoons and iconic photo portraits add to the aura and, for some, encourage cocktail-drinking.
